Local Office Supply Company Blue Summit Supplies Announces $3,000 Creative Scholarship for UAH Students

HUNTSVILLE, Alabama – Huntsville-based office supply company Blue Summit Supplies has announced that they are sponsoring a new $3000 scholarship for one UAH student currently working toward an undergraduate degree in a creative field of study.

The team at Blue Summit Supplies has experienced firsthand the impact that well-rounded creative thinkers can have when building a successful business. With 5 years of rapid business growth under their belts, the investment of time and resources that the BSS leadership team has made into creative staff members has proven to be invaluable to the growth of their company’s marketing, brand development, and internal culture.

While ample opportunities abound in Huntsville for students pursuing educational and career paths in technical and engineering fields, it is the hope of Blue Summit Supplies that establishing this scholarship will help open doors for those pursuing creative fields of study.

“I started my career as an engineer with little exposure to creative professionals. Now, as a CEO, I’ve experienced the power of investing in creative team members toward building a visionary brand,” says Owen Franklin, founder and CEO of Blue Summit Supplies, which operates out of its headquarters office at Campus No. 805 in downtown Huntsville.

“We couldn’t do what we do here at Blue Summit Supplies without our creative team.”

To be considered for the scholarship, UAH students are required to have participated in the college’s Month of Externships (MOE) program. MOE offers students the opportunity to gain real-world experience by shadowing professionals in their fields. For students pursuing a creative path, this can be an eye-opening and inspiring experience that helps prepare them for their future careers.

“One of the biggest challenges that students face when pursuing a creative degree is understanding the value they can provide to future employers,” says Franklin.

“Our main goal in establishing this scholarship is to help creative students gain the resources and confidence they need to become successful creative professionals. The MOE prerequisite is instrumental to achieving this goal because it gives students tangible examples of how valuable their unique skillsets are to today’s companies.”

The establishment of the Blue Summit Supplies Creative Scholarship is the latest effort by the company to support quality education opportunities for local students. The startup ecommerce brand manufactures its own line of private label products as well as offering a full line of business supplies to local businesses. The staff donates both their time as well as a percentage of profits toward their philanthropic mission of facilitating educational opportunities for all ages, from school-aged children through working adults. Other philanthropic projects by the brand have included monetary and school supply donations, local employee volunteer days, mentorship, and hosting community give-back events.

The 2021 recipient of the Blue Summit Supplies Creative Scholarship will be announced in early fall of this year. UAH students interested in applying to be a recipient of this new scholarship should reach out to Jennifer Brost in the Office of Development.
